Sephiroth

This one is almost obvious. Dare I say that no one,other than Sephiroth himself deserves to be the number one. The main villain of Final Fantasy VII, Sephiroth was the best SOLDIER in Shinra Inc. All that changed when he went on a mission to Nibelheim to check the Mako reactor there. He found out the truth about himself, which left him enraged. Nibelheim was burnt down, and most of its residents went down with it. Sephiroth was later 'killed' by Cloud, who himself was enraged at Sephiroth for burning down his hometown. Sephiroth recuperated at the Northern Cave, where he orchestrated the destruction of the Planet.

How'd he make it to no.1? Just look at him. He looks cool. He has a bad-ass attitude. He has a twisted mind. He wields a very long sword. He is powerful. He totally disregards others. He killed the president of Shinra. He killed Aeris. He burnt a whole town all by himself. What more reasons do you need? Sephiroth is the man of Final Fantasy, period.
